Starry Constellation Magazine Interviews Zach.

Online magazine, Starry Constellation interviewed Zach a few days ago. The interview was available online on November 26th as a Thanks Giving Present.
BTW, We have also updated our Events gallery with pics from the 2009 American Music Awards. So, please go over our gallery section and enjoy. Screencaps of the 1.10 Episode The turning point have been added as well.

Q.  You can currently be seen on the show "Vampire Diaries," are there any other projects that you've been working on? A.  Right now I am currently in post production on a film I produced this summer.  I'm doing a lot of things, doing a little light reading, some hiking, stuff like that.
Q.  What about your role as Matt on "Vampire Diaries" that continues to challenge you? A.  I think that no matter how often we try to be selfless, we sometimes end up being a little selfish in the process, and Matt is never selfish.  He is selfless all of the time, every decision he makes is selfless.  I would say that's been hard to adapt to.
Q.  What do you think it is about the show that continues to garner so many viewers?
A. Well for starters there is a vampire phenomenon.  Everyone knows that we're kind of riding the same wave that a lot of other people are riding, but what I think separates our show from the other shows, is that we're in a constantly evolving world that people are privy to watch.
Q.  You had to dye your hair to play a natural blonde.  Is this something that's hard for you to maintain? A.  No, no, not at all, I was born a toe head, my hair was white when I was born and started getting darker as I got older.  They cut it kind of short, I like it, it's a lot easier and my eyebrows are still white as snow.
Q.  In a previous interview we did with Katerina Graham she mentioned you had a project you were working on with the Children's Hospital in Atlanta.  Can you tell us a little bit about it and why it's so important to you? A.  Why it's so important for starters is that we're in Atlanta right now and none of us had really been based out of Atlanta and now our show is floating off of the charts with filming here in Atlanta.  I decided it would be nice to give something back to Atlanta.  They've been so cool to us with having us in their city.  I love kids and I know that everyone else on the set loves kids.
Q.  In an interview Julie Plec did with Soap Opera Weekly she said that, "One character that won't be on the roller coaster is the show's most steadfast guy, Matt, that he's such a good guy in the book that they didn't want to mess with that.  She went on to say that in most shows you don't get the hot, well-liked athlete who happens to be a good person with a good heart."  What are your thoughts on her comment about that because there it's rare to find that truly great guy on TV, that Matt shouldn't be messed with? A.  Two reasons I don't think Matt should be messed with.  First, because TV needs a nice guy like Matt, a guy that is pure and doesn't have a motive at the end of the day.  Second, you never, ever want to mess with the most polite, quiet athlete type because you know they're always hiding some kind of secret and by the time you try to mess with them all hell will break loose.  I think Matt's got some hidden rage, I mean look at his life, he's never exhibited any ounce of anger or emotion and so I feel like it's going to be a Ned Flanders kind of explosion.
Q.  You and many of the other cast members are on Twitter and have a lot of interaction with the fans of the show.  Why is it important for you to reach out to the fans this way? A.  Twitter, to me honestly, is really easy.  I have been horrible with fan mail my entire career.  I think you really have to be diligent about it and stay on it and I never was.  With Twitter, it's so easy, I can see what the fans are saying.  Should I choose to comment on it, I can, and I feel like it's the easiest way for me to contact the fans.
Q.  Where do you draw from for your portrayal of Matt? A.  I am from the Midwest, I'm from Ohio, and there are guys like Matt all over where I'm from.  They always put the woman first and family comes first.  Matt is small town and I grew up in a small town.
Q.  We have seen a few photos and articles about the female cast members hanging out together outside of the show, but not too much of the guys.  Do the male cast members get together outside of the set as well? A.  Definitely!  The girls and the guys, we all hang out together, it's just that Ian and Paul work all the time.  Their only free time is on the weekend, they are constantly doing press and stuff like that.  Ian and I have a lot in common, we're actually going to spend some time together over this Thanksgiving, and Michael Trevino I hang out with all of the time.  Paul Wesley is a pretty cool guy too though, we all get along.
Q.  Do you have a latest obsession?  Are you into any particular music group, sport, book, or activity?A.  My latest obsession is iMovie because I got a flip cam about a month ago and I figured out how to edit all of my little flip videos together.
Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters? A.  Thank you very much, I appreciate your support along the way, and I continue to appreciate it.

Why We Heart Zach Roerig

Celebrity Blog JSYK interviews Zach about Vampire diaries, Twilight, kissing scenes and shows us how handy he can be by doing other things while being interviewed.
Meet Zach Roerig. He plays Matt Donovan, the cute high school football star, on this season's smash show, The Vampire Diaries. His character still has feelings for his ex, Elena. Unfortunately, she's kind of into vampires now. Yeah, sucks to be Matt.We talked to Zach on Monday and learned a lot actually. Like he still believes in ghosts, almost auditioned for a part in Twilight and he wouldn't mind filming a kissing scene with one of his costars, but it's surprisingly not on the top of his list. Get to know more about Zach in our full Q&A below.

Zach Roerig Explains 'Vampire Diaries'

Popeater interviews Zach. He talks Vampire Diaries, Friday Night lights, and ghosts.

When we heard that the CW greenlit 'The Vampire Diaries,' we couldn't imagine what they were thinking. More vampires? In an entertainment space littered with the undead, we didn't think there was any way another teen vampire drama could possibly succeed. We can admit when we're wrong. With the help of young actor Zach Roerig (Cash of 'Friday Night Lights' fame), 'The Vampire Diaries' has sunk its teeth into the top ratings spot on the network. Roerig plays Matt Donovan on the unexpectedly delightful CW series, and he was kind enough to answer a few of PopEater's questions in an exclusive interview

Popwrap interviews Zach

The NYpost has a great interview with Zach.

If you have yet to be bitten by the vampire bug, prepared to be glamoured. Despite the opportune timing of "The Vampire Diaries" -- premiering after "True Blood" and in between "Twilight" installments -- The CW's new drama shouldn't be compared to its bloodsucking competition, says star Zach Roerig.

Zach, who you may recognize as rowdy cowboy Cash from "Friday Night Lights," plays all-American football star Matt Donovan. But unlike many other B.M.O.C's, his ex-girlfriend isn't spending late nights pining over him. In fact, Elena's already falling for the new "kid" in town, Stefan, a 150-year-old vampire who who has yet to reveal his identity. PopWrap caught up with Zach to talk about vampires and why no human will be safe from the supernatural in "VD's" Mystic Falls -- not even "nice guy" Matt.

Had you read "The Vampire Diaries" books before coming on the show? I was always a fan of vampires, but I hadn't read the books. Fortunately, though, I have a little sister and a bunch of girl cousins that had read the books, so they pretty much filled me in when I first got the audition.

What was it about Matt that attracted you to the role? Well, on "Friday Night Lights," Cash started out as kind of a nice guy but then turned out to be, you know, not a nice guy. And other characters I've played have always in the end just been kinda walking on the wrong side of the line. Matt was a chance to just really play a nice guy. I just wanted to get a chance to show that.

He's nice now, but will he stay nice if/when he discovers that his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend is a vampire? You know, I think as soon as Matt figures out that they're vampires, something's gonna happen. He's a pretty level-headed guy, but he's also the hero so, you know, who knows. Who knows what he'll do.

Zach Roerig Wants To Become A Slayer

Fancast has an interview with Zach about his character, Matt, and Vampire Diaries.

Zach Roerig plays Matt, Elena’s wholesome ex-boyfriend on CW’s new hit, The Vampire Diaries. In a recent interview, Roerig discussed Matt’s dysfunctional family, filming in Georgia and why he thinks Matt should kill a vampire.

Why is Matt still so drawn to Elena?
I think it’s just one of those cases where he doesn’t know any different. Elena’s the only girlfriend he’s ever had. She’s his childhood best friend who was the first for everything.

Zach Roerig talks travel

The Vampire Diaries series opens with Zach Roerig playing Matt Donovan, the big high school football star dating the hot girl of the school and main character, Elena Gilbert. The role of the football star is not a new one to Zach however. You may recognize him from his role from the hit series Friday Night Lights.

Although his recent successes highlight his career in 2009, he's no amateur to the industry. Zach had roles in popular soap operas such as One Life to Live and As the World Turns. His hard work has definitely paid off and the sky is the limit for this young actor.

AOL Travel asked Zach what was his favorite thing about filming The Vampire Diaries in Atlanta and how he's dealt with fan recoginition while on vacation.

What's the best thing you've discovered about Atlanta? Little five points. It's like venice crossed between the east village. You can't go wrong with that.

What's the Funniest Time a Fan Recognized You While On Vacation? How Did Everyone React? During one vacation trip we stopped at a truck stop to refuel. I was alarmed to hear a deep voice shout "Casey Hughes!" (My character on As the World Turns at the time). At this point my fans were generally middle aged females, so i was a little shocked when it turned out that the voice belonged to a burly trucker who happened to be a big fan of the show

What's Your Favorite Childhood Vacation Memory? One night in North Carolina my cousins and I stumbled upon a sea turtle laying eggs on the beach. I was the oldest of the group and seized the opportunity to explain the birds and the bees to the youngsters, much to their parents chagrin.

What Is the One Item/Thing You Never Travel Without? And Why? I will never travel without with my favorite pair of boat shoes. They smell so bad that I should probably burn them, but instead I wrap them up in 3 or 4 grocery bags and hope that the pilot doesn't mind the stench.

What's your biggest pet peeve when traveling or share the worst travel experience you've had? Riding in my grandpa's truck knowing that the coffee can beneath my feet was filled with his urine from the first few hundred miles was alarming, to say the least.

Interview By Patrick Batu, Nov 4th 2009.
